Wicomico County Public Schools | EFMP FY2025 WCPS County Stadium Although not a building by definition, the WCPS county stadium is treated as a separate facility to track the necessary on-going operations and maintenance of this critical athletic component. The county stadium is shared by all WCPS schools for several of their competition sport venues including soccer, lacrosse, football and track and receives an immense amount of use throughout the entire year. The track was recently resurfaced and bleachers replaced. The stadium score board was also recently replaced. Portables Portables, whether used as classrooms or program support, are often used throughout our schools to deal with critical space needs. This is done as a short termmeasure until a more permanent structure can be funded and constructed but they often become a long term fix. During the 2022/23 school year, WCPS was operating and maintaining eighty-four (84) portables at various schools throughout the county. Sixty (60) units are located on elementary school sites, eleven (11) are at middle schools and thirteen (13) are being used at the high school level. Our records indicate that more than 75% of the rooms within the 84 portables are being used as additional classroom space. The others are used to make up for instructional pull-out space that older schools lack. In total, these units represent over 60,000 square feet which for comparison purposes, is approximately the size of one of our smaller elementary schools. Many of the units are old requiring continued service and resources much like an actual school building. WCPS has tried to reduce its overall inventory of aged portables by addressing the improvements and repairs required. Portables (for better or worse) have come to play a vital role in our ability to provide adequate space for the classroom and program support needs of our schools. It has become crucial that we maintain and service these units on a regular basis. Alternative Education Program / Choices Study the options for a permanent building for the Choices Academy program. Plumbing Wicomico High School is unique in that it is a large campus style school. Throughout the sprawling campus, the original domestic water piping is corroding from the inside out. Associated piping is becoming clogged with particles and with that, it is recommended that all of the interior and exterior (to the main) domestic water piping be replaced. Along the same lines, the original sewer piping continues to age with each passing year. These pipes shall be monitored and replaced when necessary. This condition is also present at several of our other older schools such as Wicomico Middle School. Such conditions must be monitored and addressed as necessary. 132
