FY 2025 Educational Facilities Master Plan

IN THE WEEDS ANALYSIS Figure 3A (on the following page) shows which of the schools are over capacity for the current school year (2023/24). In addition to the current year numbers, there are also two columns that allow us to quickly see if the condition is temporary or a longer term problem. This assessment is based off of the Projected Enrollments vs. SRC graph which can be found on each school’s individual score card (see the Facility Inventory section). By looking at the long range projections, it is easier to make decisions based on where the true long term issues reside. Figure 3B shows which of the schools are over capacity in year five. By looking five years out, we are better positioned to pro-actively address pending issues before they arise. While state rated capacity is a good indicator of overcrowding, it does not take into account capacity added by portables. For this reason, the score cards list the total number of portables at each school, as well as how many are used as classrooms. Having this number helps us quickly gauge if existing portables are adequate enough to address the overages indicated in figures 3A and 3B. The projected enrollments graph also allows us to see if the overcrowding dissipates within 1-2 years, meaning the school can deal with the overcrowding for a limited amount of time. If the overcrowding issue does not decrease within two years or can’t be adequately addressed with existing portables, than a new solution must be devised. Figures 3A and 3B have three columns that illustrate which of the three categories each over crowded school falls into. The master plan will focus on solutions for those schools (listed below) that fall into the “solutions needed” category. See the Facility Needs section at the end of the EFMP for viable solutions. Elementary Schools: 1. Beaver Run Elementary 2. Delmar Elementary 2. Prince Street Elementary 3. West Salisbury Elementary Secondary Schools: 1. Wicomico Middle 2. Wicomico High 3. Mardela Middle / High 215
