Purpose 2 The purpose of this procedure is to establish standards by which students are assigned to their 3 attendance area school. 4 5 II. Definitions 6 For the purpose of this procedure, the following definitions apply: 7 A. “Legal Guardian” means the person(s) having custodial care of a minor child, including the 8 natural or adoptive parent(s), legal guardian(s), or other person(s) having the appropriate legal 9 documentation. 10 B. “Attendance Area” means the geographic area approved by the Wicomico County Board of 11 Education (Board) to provide sufficient and appropriate enrollment for each individual school 12 operation. 13 C. “Special Permission” means the process of a legal guardian requesting permission and receiving 14 approval for the student to attend a school other than the one serving the attendance area of the 15 attendance area associated with the residency of the legal guardian and student. 16 17 III. Procedure 18 A. To assure balanced use of schools, students will be required to attend the school in the 19 attendance area in which they reside unless special permission is granted. 20 B. If a legal guardian wants the student to attend a school outside his/her attendance area, a current 21 Request for Permission to Attend a School Outside Student’s Attendance Area form must be 22 completed and submitted to the school where attendance is requested. 23 C.
