Wicomico County Public Schools | EFMP FY2027 FULL DAY KINDERGARTEN A full day kindergarten program is implemented in all 11 primary/elementary locations serving 1,225 students. The full day program allows teachers to effectively provide indepth instruction while pacing to meet individual needs and foster positive parentteacher relationships. The district utilizes Maryland’s College and Career Readiness Standards. The locations are: • Beaver Run Elementary • Chipman Elementary • Delmar Elementary • Fruitland Primary • Northwestern Elementary • Pemberton Elementary PREKINDERGARTEN Prekindergarten is a program for four-year-old children who meet eligibility criteria, including those identified as living at the poverty level based on current federal poverty guidelines and/ or meeting the federal definition of homelessness. Students receive daily instruction in developmentally appropriate learning environments designed to prepare them for kindergarten. Priority enrollment is given to students with disabilities and multilingual learners, ensuring that those with the greatest need for early intervention and language development services have access to high-quality early childhood education. Prekindergarten is offered at all 11 primary/elementary locations listed above. They receive funding through the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, which supports full-day programming and expands access for eligible students across income levels. Four of the eleven sites also receive Judy Center Grant funding to provide additional comprehensive services for children and families. The district has adopted the Connect4Learning curricula for use in prekindergarten classrooms. Instruction is delivered through integrated, project-based units of study that engage students in meaningful exploration of a variety of topics, promoting school readiness and foundational skill development. Approximately 800 four-year-old children participate in the program across all locations. Each classroom is designed to serve up to 20 students and is staffed by a certified teacher and an instructional assistant to ensure high-quality instruction and support.
